On the 22th of April, PREWAPHARM partners and associated partners came together at the University of Luxembourg for two inspiring days of collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The consortium meeting provided an opportunity for (associated) partners to meet in person, share updates on the progress of the project, and discuss the next steps in the different activities. With partners working across healthcare, pharmacy, research, water technology, and policy, these moments of exchange are essential for connecting the different parts of the project and ensuring that activities develop in a coordinated way.
From project updates to first results
The meeting began with updates on the progress of PREWAPHARM and the first results emerging from the project's pilot activities. These results provide valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges involved in preventing pharmaceutical residues from entering water systems.
Sharing these findings within the consortium allows partners to learn from one another and helps ensure that experiences from different pilots and activities can inform the wider project. The discussions also helped partners align on the next steps and identify where further collaboration is needed.
A World Café for open exchange
The afternoon was dedicated to interactive World Café sessions, bringing together project partners and associated partners to explore key questions related to the project.
The discussions focused on topics including:
- pharmacy interventions and how to support more sustainable medicine use;
- training and knowledge exchange for water professionals; and
- challenges related to water sampling and monitoring.
The World Café format created space for open discussion and exchange between people with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. Rather than discussing these topics in isolation, participants were able to bring together different perspectives and explore how the various activities within PREWAPHARM can complement one another.
These discussions provided fresh insights for the activity leaders and helped shape the next steps of the project. They also highlighted the value of bringing together the different sectors involved in addressing pharmaceutical pollution in water.
Collaboration across sectors
With partners and associated partners from across Europe and multiple sectors, the discussions were open, insightful, and full of energy. The meeting demonstrated the importance of collaboration in a project that takes a whole-chain approach to pharmaceutical pollution.
Reducing pharmaceutical residues in water requires action at different points — from responsible medicine use and pharmacy interventions to monitoring, wastewater treatment, and the development of innovative water technologies. By bringing together the expertise of different partners, PREWAPHARM can explore how these approaches can work together to support practical and scalable solutions.
The consortium meeting in Luxembourg was therefore not only an opportunity to review progress, but also a moment to reflect, exchange ideas, and shape the next phase of the project together.
