On 26 June 2025, PREWAPHARM project coordinator Erika Brattinga-Roth represented the consortium at the international symposium “Minimizing the Ecological and Economic Burden of Medication Waste in Europe” in Brussels. The event was hosted by the NCBR Office and organised under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This high-level symposium brought together policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry stakeholders from across Europe to address the pressing challenge of pharmaceutical waste. Discussions ranged from legal and economic frameworks to practical and sustainable solutions in healthcare.

During a vibrant panel discussion, Erika shared PREWAPHARM’s approach to tackling pharmaceutical pollution at the source. She highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration and transnational strategies to ensure that solutions are not only technically sound but also widely implementable.

PREWAPHARM was featured alongside projects like ENKORE ECOHEALTHCARE, emphasising how regional initiatives contribute to shared European goals such as the EU Zero Pollution Action Plan and more sustainable healthcare systems.

We would like to thank Professor Przemysław Kardas, Aneta Andrzejczyk, Waldemar Dubaniowski, Paweł Lewek, and all other speakers and co-panellists for their valuable contributions and inspiring dialogue. PREWAPHARM is proud to be part of this growing international movement to reduce the environmental and societal impact of medication use.

Stay tuned for more project updates as we continue to collaborate across borders to create a healthier, more sustainable Northwest Europe.
